There are a many unique species in this world out of which some are really rare to find. Most of them are only found in the hilly regions and in cold regions. These species are rare and distinct and holds a great value.
One of which is a snowshoe hare, also known as a Varying hare which is found in North America. This specie got this name not because it is used in preparation of a snow shoe but, because of the large size of its hind feet and also the marks its tail leaves. The usefulness of this animal’s feet prevents it from sinking into the snow when it jumps and walks. It has feet’s that have fur on the soles to protect it in from freezing temperatures. It uses its furs for camouflage, when it turns white in winter and rusty brown during the summer. What makes snowshoe hare different from other hares is its flank that is white year- round and the fur on the back of its ears which are comparatively shorter than the other hares. They feed on various plants such as grass, ferns and leaves whereas, in winter they eat twig, the bark of trees, and buds from various flowers and plants. Hares are cannibalistic under availability of dead species, and known to eat dead rodents such as mice when they do not get proper level of protein in their herb diet. The snowshoe hare is sometimes seen feeding in small groups and is mainly active at night.
There are six subspecies of this hare:
• Lepus americanus americanus
• Lepus americanus bairdii
• Lepus americanus cascadensis
• Lepus americanus dalli
• Lepus americanus struthopus
• Lepus americanus virginianus
Because of the above features it could be very tough to catch a snowshoe animal. Few things must be kept in mind before catching this animal. You can use various techniques to hunt a hare with and without a hunting dog. The hunting dogs have been proved to be very successful methods of catching a hare. Most people use various breeds of hunting dogs to catch the rabbits whereas, many believe catching a rabbit without hunting dogs is a better way. Your dog must be properly trained in order to give you the best results. The best rabbit dog is said to be beagles though they are not as fast as compared to a greyhound but, they are very effective in catching the rabbits.
It requires a proper knowledge of a rabbit under varying weather conditions. This technique can be applied either solo or with a partner as well. The best time to hunt for rabbit is the first warm day when, bunnies come to sit out in the open fields soaking up the sunlight. You can also use a brush pile to catch a rabbit as; it is a very effective tool. An overgrown old apple orchard, as they are easy to hunt without a hunting dog.
